The weather in Vancouver has been teasing us with sunny and above zero temps, flowers popping up and birds chirping...and then turning around the next day with flurries. With that, it's time to talk about transitioning into spring weather and putting the spotlight on spring knitwear.
If you're wondering what to wear in transitional weather - we’re all in favour of ditching the jacket and opting for spring knitwear. Wear your spring knits casually unbuttoned over a T-shirt or draped over your shoulders. The styling opportunities are endless while feeling relaxed. This season’s spring knitwear does not disappoint, and we’re excited to share what’s already landing in-store and how to properly care for your knits to ensure they last for many spring seasons to come.
One Grey Day, no matter the day
More like one sunny day around here! One Grey Day is our go to for soft to the touch and light as air spring knitwear. This season One Grey Day is delivering a fresh batch of colours and versatile styles that have arrived just in time for spring beak. Whether you’re travelling to the slopes, the beach or staying local, One Grey Day is versatile enough to accompany you wherever your journey takes you.
The Sloane Series
The Sloane Cashmere T-shirt, the Sloane Cashmere Cardigan and the Sloane Cashmere V-neck and Boxy Pullover are great spring knitwear choices due to their light as air composition. The knit is loose and therefore more breathable as gaps in the fabric allow for heat to exit, as opposed to getting trapped. Whether you’re travelling to a warmer climate or hanging out in a crowded ski lodge, the Sloane series are three great choices from One Grey Day when it comes to spring knitwear.
The Sloane Cashmere T-shirt available in a feathery light Heather Grey and Stone, features warm tones and a classic crew neck. This style is cut like an everyday t-shirt but is a chic, elevated take given it's 100% cashmere fabrication. We can see this style worn with jeans, or relaxed shorts, chic sunnies and tried and true Birkenstocks.
Another spring knitwear style we’re excited to have online and in-store is the Sloane Cashmere Cardigan available in three neutral colours: oatmeal, heather grey and black. We can picture this style worn over the shoulders while you dine alfresco by a breezy beach and need just a hint of warmth, or layered over a basic t-shirt for a casual look for an apres ski (it’s okay if you didn't ski, we won’t tell anyone 😉). For layering tips and tricks over a white t-shirt, check out our Back to Basics: Best White T-Shirts post on The Archive.
Next up is the Sloane Cashmere V-Neck. The Sloane Cashmere V-Neck is a 100% cashmere loose knit. If you’re like us, you’ve seen the v-neck style making a comeback as an essential layering piece over long sleeve and short sleeve t-shirts. We love seeing a v-neck styled over a t-shirt with trousers, skirts or jeans. This spring knitwear piece can be elevated for a night out with slimmer dark denim such as the Emerson Slim Fit Boyfriend 27” or a skirt like the Danni Skirt from Geel. It's a versatile sweater that you can reach for no matter what spring has in store.
Last but not least from the Sloane collection is the Cashmere Boxy Pullover in a beautifully relaxed shape. Available in Dragon Fruit, this bright red pairs beautifully with light denim like the 101 Oketo Straight Jeans in Vintage Light or the Everyday Pull On Pant from Apiece Apart in Cream. Feel free to layer underneath with a white tee just peeking through.
Spring Knitwear - Cotton Blends
Another go-to for spring knitwear from One Grey Day is the Warwick Pullover, available in black, white, navy and heather grey. Knitted from a soft cotton-blend yarn, the Warwick Pullover is a great choice for durable, everyday wear. Style with just about anything from your favourite jeans (we happen to love the Cinch Baggy jeans from Levi's) to trousers. Another feature we appreciate about the Warwick Pullover is that it’s machine washable, all we ask is that you lay this baby down to dry. For additional care tips, see our cheat sheet bellow.

Casual Spring Knitwear
Speaking of casual spring knitwear, The Raleigh Pullover is One Grey Day’s take on a fisherman style sweater. Knit from a soft cotton-blend yarn, this pullover is a chunky yet relaxed style with a loose knit for enhanced breathability. Featuring a raglan sleeve for a relaxed vibe. Available in latte, heather grey and white. We see the Raleigh Pullover as a wearable option now and into the summer. Wear on its own with jeans or layer over a t-shirt or tank.
Also available in a loose knit cardigan in lemon.
While we're at it, it would be a shame not to mention the Stable Lodge Cardigan in Blue Bell by The Great. This beauty is inspired by a child's cardigan from the '60s and has vintage nostalgia woven into it's design. Woven from cotton/alpaca yarn it's a charming and sentimental cardigan to throw on over jeans and a tank for a beachside stroll.
Delicate Spring Knitwear
An honourable mention goes to FRAME. This spring, FRAME is offering up beautifully feminine spring knitwear that we are swooning over. The Delicate Tie Sweater in cream is romance in a sweater and carries an air of vintage femininity. Despite the feminine detailing we see this sweater being worn with light wash lowrise jeans or long loose jeans shorts like the Brynn Short or Levi’s High Baggy Short for a more casual look. Dress this gal up with a silky slinky dress or skirt such as Geel’s Brynn Skirt for a dressier night out. Its light as air mohair-wool blend in a diamond stitch gives it a whimsical aesthetic that we truly adore as a spring knitwear essential.
The Chain Pointelle Cardi in navy from FRAME, is another take on a feminine silhouette that we can see being worn all season long. From coffee dates to work days, this cardigan is a no brainer. The slightly puffed sleeves give this cardigan an extra element to kick your cardi game up a notch. Since it’s a slight puff, you can still dress it down with denim like the Winslow Boyfriend by Citizens of Humanity and accessorize with a brown leather belt to play off the navy.
The Crochet Cardi is another unique piece from FRAME that is so versatile and oh so cool. We know black isn't a go to colour for spring and summer but hear us out. This is a crochet masterpiece and the nature of crochet means that it's open knit and optimizes air flow for the wearer so this can be worn on warm days. While the cut is contemporary the crochet detailing is vintage inspired and with covered buttons, this cardi is as classic and cool as they come.

Spring Knitwear Frequently Asked Questions
Investing in your wardrobe goes beyond the shopping experience and into your home and routine. Seeing the Dry Clean Only sign can be comforting for some but daunting for others. Caring for knitwear doesn't have to be overwhelming. We wanted to share some FAQ's and a little cheat sheet as a guide for you to put in your back pocket (just remember to take it out before washing!)
What is the best material for a spring sweater?
The best material for spring knitwear is a natural, breathable fiber. Think cotton, linen blends and lightweight merino wool. These materials enhance air flow so you don't get that stifled over-heating feeling as the weather warms up, while still providing enough warmth if it's breezy.
What is the difference between cotton and merino?
When choosing between a cotton or merino wool sweater in a transitional season, it comes down to heat regulation and comfort.
- Cotton is highly breathable and cool to the touch. It's perfect for lightweight sweaters for spring and offers a crisp, casual vibe.
- Merino Wool is much thinner than standard wool and is moisture wicking and temperature regulating. It keeps you warm when it's chilly but won't overheat you when the sun starts shining.
How do you layer knitwear without overheating?
Learning how to layer knitwear in the spring is an artform. The key is the base, middle, outer strategy:
- Start with a thin layer like a cotton tank or t-shirt.
- Choose an open style like a cardigan so you can unbutton, tie it over your shoulders or entirely remove.
- Do the "French Drape" over your shoulders if you still need some coverage but don't want to take it off entirely.
How can you prevent pilling?
To maintain your pieces, it's important to care for knitwear properly. Since pilling is caused by friction keep these points in mind:
- Turn inside out before washing.
- Avoid the dyer and lay flat to dry to maintain fabric quality.
- Avoid the sun - direct sunlight is the enemy of bright spring knits - always dry knits in the shade to prevent fading.
- Use a fabric shaver or comb to gently remove pills and keep the surface looking fresh.
- Opt for spot cleaning instead of a wash to reduce wear and tear on fibers.
